Coachella Style Report 2011

Grab some lace, denim, cropped tees, floral and a felt hat for all your Summer festivals, as if Coachella was anything to go by – this is what we will need to look cool in the Summer sun ! We look forward to Coachella, just as much for the fashion as we do for the music. Festivals are an ideal venue to let your hair down and experiment with your style, and the photos from this years Coachella certainly havnt left us disappointed ! Everyone who is everyone was there this year, from Diane Kruger and Alexa Chung to Nicole Richie and Kelly Osbourne, all adding their unique style stamp to the flood of festival go-ers that swarmed the Californian Music & Arts festival. Every year there are the ‘key looks’ that take-over Coachella. Two years ago it was neon and feathers, last year it was tie-dye, military and knee high socks. So lets take a look at what the most loved looks this year were:

  • Laid-back distressed denim’s worn high on the hips in true Daisy Duke style with a cropped t-shirt style top or tied vest. Finished off with wayfarers and ankle boots .

  • Striped Breton tops in an array of colours. A simple way to do Riviera chic and stay looking cool in the heat .

  • Flower Garlands worn around the head, threaded through the hair or as necklaces and bracelets. The perfect way to update simple separates with a Bohemian ‘free spirited’ vibe.

  • Floral Maxis were worn with straw trilby’s or floppy hats. A simple relaxed style that takes inspiration from the 70’s.

  • Crochet and/or lace was a massive hit this year. Seen on tops, waistcoats, dresses and shorts in shades of white and cream – this was a brilliant way to look feminine (and show off that golden tan), whilst adding some romantic 70’s accents . Katy Perry, Alexa Chung and Whitney Port all paid homage to the trend in tiered lace dresses.

  • 50’s style tied shirts were paired with high waisted denims for a lovely curvy silhouette. Shirts were in bright reds, greens and blues, often printed with florals or checks. Who knew 50’s meets Cowgirl could look so good ?

  • Asymmetrical hemmed skirts and dresses gave a whimsical twist to a simple look. Handkerchief styles, Aztec prints and tie-dye were also popular.

  • Bold and Bright prints were on everything from bags to vests and dresses to bikini’s . So many girls had fun with their fashion, sporting every print from watermelons to polka dots !

  • Oversized shirts were worn loosely over denim cut-offs. This effortlessly cool look was finished off with beach waves and aviators !

  • Tribal Jewellery looked amazing in the California sunshine and instantly added colour to all outfits. Massive beaded necklaces and stacks of bracelets were the favoured option.

  • “Accessorize, accessorize, accessorize” was the motto of the weekend with hats, bags, jewellery, socks, sunglasses, scarfs, headbands and belts as far as the eye can see !

As usual the army of celebs that descended upon the festival looked perfectly chic, whether they were hanging out at the Mulberry BBQ or attending the Lacoste pool party. Diane Krugar gets a thumbs up for her simple maxi skirt and vest combo, where-as Kelly Osbourne went for a lady-like 50’s polka dot dress , complete with socks and loafers ! Working the Colour Block trend was our very own Eliza Doolittle, throwing turquoise socks together with orange Aztec print shorts and a kitsch printed tee. Swedish Blogger Elin Kling showed us how to wear simple separates in a dark tee and cut off shorts where as Nicole Richie kept her hippy style in a printed kaftan and a green satchel.

We are loving the festival looks so much we have dedicated a whole section to finding that perfect outfit this Summer. Head over to our ‘Festival Fever’ section to shop the trend. Tell us where you are heading and what YOU will be wearing this season !
